During the process of writing Building the Resilient School (2020), we determined that a 5th seed of hope was necessary to capture the essential social-emotional assets needed for postsecondary success.
1. Focus on evidence of competence
2. Predictability and consistency in environment and communication.
3. Positive behavioral interventions and supports (PBIS).
4. Social-emotional learning curriculum taught in all classrooms.
5. Regular use of class circles/class meetings/community problem solving.
6. Regular use of mindfulness exercises and self-regulation tools.
7. Efforts to boost internal and environmental protective factors
